I was really feeling the white jeans this morning. I actually really would like a full length pair of skinny (or maybe straight,) white denim, but I keep trying on pairs and hating them all, so I'm stuck with my ag crops. I really like simple tops with with white denim and love black and white together in this context. I thought the look needed a bit of a pop though so I added this bold gold necklace from anthro, these mildly obnoxious shoes from bakers and a really obnoxious gucci that was a gift and I usually only wear to the beach (the bottom, not pictured, its metallic, its a bit much, even for me.)
in other news todays barbri lecture made me actually want to die. It was well over four hours long, my brain is about to explode. Oh, and I am totally already behind on these checklists they give us to use as a sort of guide of what do to each day.... oops.
anyway, here was what I wore to watch hell lecture today.....
jeans- ag crops- similar here
top- old f21- similar here
shoes- bakers- here
necklace- anthro, sold out online, similar here

I know the only food things I've posted recently are salad (wtf???? I need to fry something asap.....) but I've been on what is now becoming a ridiculous dinner salad kick, seriously we're talking two or three nights a week for like the past month. I'm starting to worry that boy is going to protest one of these days, but he keeps actually complimenting all the salads. I'm planning on making some yummy pulled barbecue brisket later this week, so hopefully I'll post that. But here is here is today's recipe from me, yet another salad.
arugula salad with pears, grapes, candied walnuts and roasted brussel sprouts (and god knows what else,) topped with lemon, mustard tarragon chicken:
just combine the following ingredients for the salad:
baby arugula
shaved parmesan or other hard, white cheese
a ripe red pear, sliced
red grapes, also sliced
jullienned snap peas
candied walnuts- I make my own, just take a handful of raw walnuts, a pinch of salt, a tablespoon of honey and toss together for a couple minutes in a non stick skillet on medium heat.
chopped red onion
pan roasted brussel sprouts (cooled to roomish temp. before adding to salad)- just take some halved sprouts, put them in a hot pan with a bit of olive oil, salt and balsamic vinegar cook till cooked through and nice and browned
dressing:
Lemon juice
olive oil
while balsamic vinegar (i used a fig infused one, yums!!)
herbs de provence
salt and pepper
chicken marinade:
grainy mustard
honey
fresh tarragon
lemon juice
smidge of olive oil
coat chicken in this, let sit for ideally a dayish- cook in non stick pan coated with a bit of oil. and chill for a bit for the salad.
on the side I made little toasts (of some artisanal roasted garlic bread) topped with goat cheese/greek yogurt, honey and pistachios:
1. take equal parts of soft goat cheese and 2% fat greek yogurt (for two people I used about 2 big spoons of each)
2. blend with a handful of pistachios (roasted, salted,)
3. spread over the toasts and drizzle with honey to taste. I used my deda's amazing homemade (or harvested???? hmmm.) honey. Yes, my 84 year old deda keeps bees. Its half terrifying and half amazing.

Hi Natalie~
ReplyDeleteemmm full length white skinny/straight jeans~ huge handshake I've looking for a nice pair for a while as well...haven't really tried many on though...I wonder why you find them not working well? (I honestly feel you look gorgeous in anything^ ^)
btw, may I know how tall you are? I kinda feel we might be of similar height?
Natalie, you have the cutest clothes and style it nice but WTF with the shoes?? Seriously, you need to invest in some nicer shoes to go with your outfits. Most of your shoes look so plastic! I think the shoes and purse can make or break an outfit.
ReplyDeleteGreat shoes Natalie!!! Love that color.
ReplyDeleteSo you look way too fabulous to be sitting in a room all day and studying. The necklace is such a statement piece!
Love the salad btw, I would totally replicate it without the chicken of course, since I'm a veggie an all.
Iris- thanks!! I'm 5'5, pretty average. I always have problems finding jeans I like, my general body type (not much of a waist or hips) makes things problematic, in that they will fit great in the butt and legs but be a bit too tight around the waist or vice versa- and that seems to be a lot bigger of a problem with the general less flattering look of tight, white pants, ya know?
ReplyDeleteanon- thanks for the input, but i a) like my shoes just fine the way they are b) don't want to spend a ton of money on shoes because I destroy them walking around the city and c) over half my shoes are leather and cost (at retail which I rarely pay) over $80-100 so I'm not sure why they look like plastic to your oh so discerning eyes......
DEA- thanks!!!! I love the necklace too- I'm so glad I picked it up. And as far as the salad goes- you totally don't even need the chicken, I ended up not being in a huge meat mood that night myself and barely ate any and it was fab without it :)
you have got to be the best dressed in the barbri lecture hall and i love your white skinnies! i definitely hate white jean shopping too but they always look so chic on. at my location here in chicago, everyone looks like they just woke up and i feel so dressed up if i wear anything but jeans. but it's also prohibitively cold in the room so jeans are best anyway, sigh.
ReplyDeleteThanks Natalie:)
ReplyDeleteooh I really thought you must be over 5'8" 'cos you look so tall and lean in the pictures! I'm actually 6'...
my problem with skinnies is that I'm about a 0/2 in bottoms~so not much in the trunk either...but I always feel they make my hip and thighs look dis-proportionally wider compared with the rest of the body- -// maybe wearing a longer top like a tunic would solve the problem?
emmm that said, I really crave for the crisp clean look of white skinnies;-P
good luck with the bars! (being a lawyer was my childhood dream but I guess I've wondered far enough away from it>_<)
hello-that salad sounds and looks DELISH!! you always look good and always have good food to share!
ReplyDeleteI've got to say you have such great leen toned legs. Any exercise tips for working out those babies?
ReplyDeleteYou always look so fresh! I love how your legs look in the white jeans. Seriously, you have killer legs and I am SUPER jealous! And WOW @ 6:45 Anon... that comment is so uncalled for!
ReplyDeleteI love the outfit and adore the color of the shoes! I remember those god awful barbri lectures. The only hightlight of my day was dressing up in a cute outfit for them. Honestly, I took PMBR and BARBRI and the only thing I got out of them that was useful were the books. I definitely could have done the iPod study method and done just as well. I don't think everything started to make sense to me until a month in after barbri finished. I found studying the books, outlines, and lecture notes on my own and answering as many MBE questions was the best mehod for me. I remember waking up at about ten every morning and studying until about 3 am and repeating every day. It was not fun! You will feel so relieved after though and I wish you the best of luck on the bar!
ReplyDeleteI just started following your blog not too long ago - good stuff! By the way, I like your shoes! That anonymous person might be a lil' jealous, perhaps? :)
ReplyDeleteI am so glad I'm not doing bar prep with you because I think most days I threw on a t-shirt and yoga pants. There were days when I'd wear a cute sundress + cardi + gold sandals and people looked at me like I was nuts!
ReplyDeleteAs for white jeans, I recently found a cute pair at Talbots of all places. They were really affordable too!
I made this salad and it was fantastic! Honestly, one of my favourite dishes EVER. I hope you post more!
